About ShrinkPix
ShrinkPix started as a small, single-purpose tool: a page where you could drop in a photo and get a smaller file back, without creating an account, installing software, or sending the image to a server first. That's still all it does. There's no dashboard, no upsell, and no "pro" version hiding behind the free one.
Why we built it this way
Most of the image compressors we'd used before this ourselves needed a file upload, a short wait, and a download link — and it was never fully clear where the file went in between, or how long it sat on someone else's server. For anything sensitive — a scanned ID, an unreleased product photo, a client's draft — that's an uncomfortable amount of trust to hand over just to shrink a JPG.
So ShrinkPix runs the compression using your browser's own canvas engine — the same underlying technology image editors use — instead of a server. The file is read, re-encoded, and handed back to you inside the same tab. We never see it, and we couldn't store it even if we wanted to.
What we actually do
- Re-encode JPG, PNG and WebP images at a quality level you choose
- Optionally resize to a maximum width before compressing
- Convert between formats — most usefully, down to WebP for the smallest result
How the site pays for itself
Running the tool costs us bandwidth and hosting, so the site carries display advertising, including ads served through Google AdSense. Ads don't affect how your images are processed — that part happens entirely on your own device, ad or no ad. Details on the data cookies and ad providers collect are in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy, linked in the footer.
